7 Things You Should Know About Structural Fumigation

7 Things You Should Know About Structural Fumigation | San Joaquin Pest ControlWhat do you know about structural fumigation? Probably not as much as I do, but then again, I work for a pest control company.

So what happens when you need to have a structural fumigation? What kind of pest problems require fumigations? How long is this gonna’ take? I’m sure you need answers to at least some of those questions, and we’re here to make sure you get them you. Here are seven things you should know about structural fumigation:

  • It could take all week!

A fumigation usually lasts just a few days, but you could be out of your home for an entire week. Plan accordingly.

  • Be ready to empty the medicine cabinet.

Any medications and exposed food should be removed from the home, or it could be tainted by the chemicals used in the fumigation process.

  • And you’ll have to relocate Fido, too...

If the process is unsafe for humans and pills, then it’s unsafe for pets, too. Your furry friends (or goldfish, I suppose) will need to be out of the house for the duration.

  • This is completely safe.

Pest control companies have fumigation down to a science. Yes, they will be pumping your home full of chemicals, but that’s only one portion of the process. They will also spend several hours airing out your home, and will test the house thoroughly for toxins before allowing you to reenter.

  • The majority of fumigations are for termites.

Sure, there are other wood-destroying insects and beetles that might require a fumigation, but for the most part, widespread termite infestations are the main culprit. Speaking of which…

  • Early detection can prevent the need for fumigation!

If you notice termites early on, when the infestation is small and isolated to one portion of the home, then you can try other treatment options that are less invasive. But once an infestation has spread throughout the home, you’re done for, especially because…

  • It’s the only way to guarantee success!

Fumigations work. Not every time – occasionally the pest control company has to return – but almost always. They’re so successful, they’re the only termite control method that is certified as effective by the State of California.
