Folks, I think I deserve a raise. Because merely thinking about the headline today makes my skin crawl. Why do I have to write about this? Can’t we force someone else to do it?
And look, I’m not alone in feeling creeped out. Do you think NBA superstars are tough? I mean, they’re multimillionaire athletes; they must be, right? Well, NBA All-star Kyrie Irving encountered some bed bugs a few months back, and he did not handle it well. He said he kept feeling like his skin was crawling – while he was playing in a game the following night! It was so bad, he ended up leaving that game early.
So bed bugs are creepy and crawly enough to make grown men leave work early – after the fact. And if you actually have bed bugs, will you be able to feel them on you at night?
- Probably not – well, not actually
As in, you won’t really feel bed bugs crawling on you. These critters are small and they aren’t exactly social, so they’re probably going to bite you deep in the night; when you’re asleep and lying still. Additionally, they’re bite has an anesthetic effect, which means you won’t feel that, either.
So why the “actually” qualifier? Because those with bed bugs report constantly feeling like there are bugs on them. It’s your mind playing tricks on you, and it’s incredibly common. Also: it’s not fun. Sorry.
- Are the bites dangerous?
No. Bed bugs don’t have any poison or venom and they don’t carry disease. But bites will be itchy, red and annoying.
- What can I do about this?
Well, bed bug extermination is a very tall order. As I said, these critters like to hide, and they’re pretty good at it. You’ll have to isolate and remove any items that are infected with bed bugs – and that can be difficult once the bed bugs move around the home.
In most cases, the easiest and simplest solution is to hire a professional pest control company. They have the expertise necessary to eliminate your problem for good; and do it within a reasonable amount of time.
