Four Tips for Making Your House Pest Proof

Posted on Nov 26, 2019 6:00:00 AM by Stephanie Morgan

Four Tips for Making Your House Pest-ProofPests are persistent in their efforts to get inside your home. Because of this, you have to take a number of steps if you want to make your house pest-proof. In order to keep pests out you need to set up regularly scheduled pest control services, store food inside your house properly, repair water leaks right away, and take out the trash promptly. If you follow all of these steps your home will have a strong layer of protection against pests.

Set up regularly scheduled pest control services

Regularly scheduled pest control services are your strongest defense against pests. These services will eradicate any pests that have found their way into your home and create a layer of protection to prevent more pests from getting inside. You can have your home sprayed on whatever schedule you and your pest control pro determine is necessary based on your situation. Common pest control schedules are quarterly or monthly.

Store food inside your house properly

Pests need food to survive and are happy to get that food from your home. They will eat leftover food off of plates in the sink, snack on crumbs that fell on the floor, and get into the food packages inside your pantry that are not closed completely. In order to make your house pest-proof you need to make sure that you deal properly with food so it is not easily accessible to pests. You can do this by clearing off plates before putting them in the sink, cleaning up spills as soon as they happen, and investing in storage containers that are impervious to pests.

Repair water leaks quickly

Water leaks inside your house can create an environment that attracts pests inside. Once inside, pests can use that water to help them survive. If you want to keep pests out it is important that you repair water leaks as soon as you realize they exist. It is a good idea to check around your sinks, toilets, showers, and tubs for any signs of a leak.

Take the trash out promptly

The food that is in your trash is just as appealing to pests as the food in your pantry or sink. Food waste in your trashcan can draw pests in and significantly increase your chances of getting an infestation. You can minimize this possibility by investing in a trashcan with a lid and by taking the trash out as soon as it is full. Another good practice is to remove the trash each evening so food waste does not sit in there overnight.

Following these tips will help you protect your home from pests and get on your way toward making your home pest-proof. It is important to remember that pest control is not a once-and-done task. You must be consistent with your efforts to keep pests out because they will be consistent in their efforts to try and get into your house.
