You ended up with bed bugs in your house: I’m so sorry to hear that, and that’s 100 percent genuine. Bed bugs are easily my least favorite pest, at the top of a list of pests I hate. They’re just so small and insidious, and you can bring them into your home so easily. So many folks come home from a great vacation only to discover they have new houseguests in the form of bed bugs. That will certainly cause a little post-vacation depression, huh?
If you’re dealing with bed bugs, then it was probably you or someone in your family that introduced them into the home. Here’s how you likely ended up with a bed bug problem:
- You Recently Took a Trip
As I said above, vacations are notorious for bed bug problems, and that’s because many hotels have bed bug infestations. Bed bugs are normally passed from one home to another via personal belongings. So when you have a place like a hotel, which is full of strangers from other places, there are many opportunities for bed bugs to be introduced.
The next time you’re on vacation, take extra care to check for bed bugs before settling into a hotel room. Leave your bags on a luggage rack or in the restroom while you inspect the bedding for signs of bed bugs. And be sure to inspect it thoroughly: bed bugs have been known to hide on linens, mattresses, box springs, headboards and even nightstands.
- You Weren’t Vigilant in a High-Traffic Area
What is a high-traffic area? A place like the hotel, with many different folks from different walks of life coming together. Common high-traffic areas for you might be shopping malls, waiting rooms or BART stations/trains. When in these areas, there’s always the potential someone there has bed bugs on their belongings. Therefore, keep your stuff to yourself! Avoid placing personal items down on seats or the floor, to prevent possible bed bug transfer.
