How Do I Know What Type of Pest Treatment Will Be the Most Effective for My House? | San Joaquin Pest ControlThere is no level of pest infestation that is okay in your home. Pests such as roaches and rodents can contaminate surfaces and your food supply and put your family at risk for disease. Pests like rodents and termites have the ability to do physical damage to various areas of your home. And, when you see one pest it is a good indication that there are many more around that you do not see. If you think that you have a pest infestation the next question is, what type of treatment will be the most effective?  In order to determine what treatment route to choose you need to consider the type of infestation, look at the severity of the infestation, and listen to the recommendation of your inspection report.

Consider the type of infestation

The type of infestation you have will dictate which treatment option is best. There are some types of insecticides that are designed to eliminate a wide variety of common household pests. Other types of pesticides are designed to exterminate one specific type of pest. If you are dealing with pests such as ants or roaches then there are pesticides available that can protect against both of those pests. However, if you have a bed bug or termite problem then you will want to choose a treatment tailored specifically to those. Pesticides that are targeted to a specific pest are necessary in situations where the pest is known for being difficult to eradicate.

Look at the severity of the infestation

The severity of the infestation at your home will impact what type of pest treatment will be most effective. A small infestation can typically be handled by having a chemical pesticide applied inside and on the perimeter of your house. More severe infestations will require a few more steps for proper treatment. If you are having your home treated for a severe cockroach infestation, for example, you may have to remove everything from your cabinets and drawers to ensure that the pest pro can get to all of the potential areas where these pests spend their time. If you have an infestation that has permeated your walls and other difficult to reach places then the best treatment option may be structural fumigation.

Listen to the recommendation in your inspection report

Your pest control pro will provide you with either a written or verbal inspection report after checking your home for signs of pests. He or she will give you recommendations for the treatment options that will work best for your situation. If you listen to the professional recommendations and get the treatment your home needs you will have a pest-free home in no time.
