How to Determine if You Have Bed Bugs in Your Bakersfield, CA Home | San Joaquin Pest ControlBed bugs are super sneaky pests that have the ability to hide in just about any crack or craves because of their body shape and size. In the past couple of years, there has been an outbreak of bed bugs in the city of Bakersfield. This outbreak is occurring as more and more residents are traveling around the country and abroad. Bed bugs are commonly found in beds, seats, and carpets. By staying in a hotel room or even sitting in a chair that has bed bugs you’re susceptible to bringing them back home with you.

Determining if you have bed bugs in your Bakersfield home can be hard. First you should know what the common signs of bed bugs are. Do you wake up in the morning with bites on your body that weren’t there the night before? If so those could be bed bug bites. Bed bugs feed off of a host’s blood at night when movement is low and the ability to hide is ample. Keep in mind that these bites are different than those of a flea because they can be found anywhere on the body, rather than on the arm or ankle.

Look in the crevices of your mattress. Do you see any black stains? Black stains are remnants of bed bug feces. These stains indicate a presence of bed bugs on or in your bed. But the only true way to determine that your Bakersfield home has bed bugs is to find a bug and see for yourself. As stated before bed bugs are extremely good at hiding, making finding one difficult. Common bed bug hiding spots are sheets, mattresses, pillows, or couches.

The best way to check a bed for the presence of bed bugs is by pulling off the sheets one by one and examining the area that tucks under the mattress. This is the area that stays dark 24/7 making it a great home for bed bugs. After you remove all of the sheets take the pillows and pull off the covers. Flip the covers inside out and examine the sew lines. Once that is complete examine the folds in the pillow. Remember that you’re looking for a small, flat, blackish brown bug. Once the pillow is examined move onto the mattress. This is the hardest object to examine, but often the most common hiding spot for bed bugs (hence the name). Check the mattress by pulling apart each seam with your hands. You can use a flashlight to help you clearly see the problem areas. For couches follow the same process.

Bed bugs are the sneakiest pests around, making them extremely hard to find. If you’ve recently traveled and think you have the common signs of bed bugs then you should do a full search of your bed. One bug can lead to an infestation in no time and they are easily spread from home to home. If you think you have bed bugs, do your part to keep them out of Bakersfield and call your local pest control company today.
