Pest Control in Visalia- Is It Any Different? | San Joaquin Pest Control

Living in California’s fertile Central Valley has multiple benefits: mild, mostly dry winters; long, warm summers; lots of open space; and a thriving agricultural environment. But unfortunately, living here also has its drawbacks. For example, we’re more susceptible to certain pest problems like mosquitoes and field mice. Therefore, you need to be mindful of keeping your home safe from critters and insects.

Keep your house secure

One surefire way pests can get into your home is through cracks in walls and improperly sealed windows and doors. Insects can get through even the smallest cracks with ease, and mice can contort themselves through tiny holes. Use caulking to seal up cracks – not only will it prevent entry to intruders, it can also help lessen your energy costs.

Another common Visalia pest: those destructive termites. Make sure that no soil or plant life touches the exterior walls or foundation of your home – this provides an easy path for termites to come inside. You should have a buffer zone of about 3 feet separating your home from plants or dirt.

The cost of keeping our crops safe

The Central Valley produces a multitude of different crops that are then sent all over the country, which means there are many farmers using pesticides throughout the area. Those pesticides repel insects, who then go looking elsewhere for food; such as your home. As more pesticides are used, pests also become more resistant to them, which just makes them tougher to get rid of.

Because of the rampant pesticide use, you should also be mindful when spraying your own property and only use pesticides sparingly. Overuse carries the potential of allowing chemicals to seep into the soil, which can then contaminate groundwater. California is already having issues with air quality and groundwater contamination as it is due to pesticide use.

A smorgasbord for other insects

The booming agriculture industry also provides a feast for pollinating pests, such as bees and wasps. Wasps have been known to build nests under the eaves and roofs of houses, and sometimes even within the exterior walls. And since California has been experiencing an unusually wet winter, experts are predicting a boom in the mosquito population

Dilligence and cleanliness can help keep your home clear of pests, but nothing is foolproof. If you find yourself dealing with a pest problem you can’t handle, contact us. We’ve been servicing the Valley for decades, and will have your home pest-free in no time.
