Spring Pests To Watch For

We often get asked when our busiest season is, in the pest control industry. That answer is easy: the warmer months of the year. Spring is here and the weather is finally warming up, so we thought we’d answer that question before it was asked. Here are 4 of the most common pests you need to look out for this season.

Flies – Flies are notoriously annoying and persistent. FYI, they will start to appear with greater frequency in the spring. Flies can carry many different kinds of bacteria, so it’s best to keep them out. Make sure you have screens on all your windows and check to make sure your windows and doors fit securely into their frames, not leaving any cracks for them to get in through.

Ants – Ant Infestations are definitely more frequent during spring and summer. This is because ants will start to hunt for food again as the temperatures rise. Keep your kitchen clean, your food properly stored and your trash outside to help prevent attracting ants.

Termites – Termites are a homeowners worst enemy. These destructive little creatures start to leave their nests in the spring, which is swarming season for them. If you spot a group of termites swarming near your home, then a colony isn’t far away. Inspect your house for signs of termites and call a pest control company at the first sign of them, since they aren’t really a pest issue you can DIY away.

Mice – Fun fact: spring is mating season for rodents. Therefore, they become more active and could easily find their way inside your house. By taking similar precautions as you do for ants (proper food storage, cleaning), you can eliminate reasons for mice to infiltrate your home. Also, be sure to seal up any cracks you have in walls or your home’s foundation. You’d be surprised at the tiny spaces mice can squeeze through.
