The Best Way to Get Rid of Spider Webs

The Best Way to Get Rid of Spider Webs | San Joaquin Pest ControlSpotting a spider web in your home can give you an uneasy feeling. After all, something had to have built that web – so where is the spider now? If you have a fear of spiders, or simply don’t want them roaming about your house, a spider web certainly isn’t a welcome site. Keep reading for tips on the best way to get rid of spider webs in your home.

The first thing you will need to do is check for the culprit who built the web. Without killing or removing the spider, there’s a good chance another web will replace the one you are about to get rid of in no time at all. Before you begin your removal, take a good long look around the area for spiders or other live insects that are trapped in the web and get rid of them first. If you don’t, they will scatter the minute you start removing the web and you may lose them. Kill and dispose of or “rehome” these pests outside before you do anything else.

If the web is up above your head, you may need a chair or ladder to stand on to remove it. If you are a little nervous about touching the web or the bugs that may be in it, bring a pair of gloves along with you. You will also need whatever you are going to use to do the actual removal. You may want to use a paper towel, which will allow you to easily grab the spider or any other bugs and toss them out. You can also use the paper towel to wipe up the entire web. If that gets you a little too close for comfort, use a hand held vacuum. This will keep you from actually touching any part of the web, and will suck up any of the offending bugs quickly without much actual involvement from you. You can also use a broom to sweep up the web, or to tear it down if it’s above your head.

But above all else, the best way to get rid of spider webs is to make sure they never show up in the first place. In order to do this, you need to keep all spiders out of your home. Routine pest control services will ensure that spiders stay away from your home, and that those that do make their way inside don’t last for long. You should also check your home to make sure there are no easy access areas where spiders may be making their way inside. Check for cracks or gaps in your foundation, both inside and out. Look around windows and doors to ensure that there are no gapping spaces, and if there are, install weather stripping to close these areas up. If you don’t currently have screens on windows and doors, consider installing them for an added layer of protection. These precautions will allow you to keep spiders, and their webs, outside where they belong.

If you’ve spotted more than a few spiders or their webs in your home recently, reach out to a pest control company in your area. The company’s service combined with your DIY efforts to seal up your home is the best way to keep spiders at bay.
