Three Things You Can Do Now to Prevent Spring Pest Infestations

Three Things You Can Do Now to Prevent Spring Pest Infestations | San Joaquin Pest ControlThere are some types of pests who love the spring just as much as people do. The warmer weather brings them out once again and they threaten to infest your home. The reality is that pests can be a problem any time of the year but pest activity does pickup as winter turns into spring. The official start of spring is still a few weeks away which means there is time to take steps to prevent potential spring pest infestations. Three things you can do now to prevent spring pest infestations include inspecting the exterior of your home for breaches, repairing water problems around your home, and establishing an improved cleaning routine.

Inspect the exterior of your home for breaches

It may seem like pests can walk through walls, but they can’t. For pests to get inside your home there has to be some type of breach that provides them with access. Common areas for breaches are around doors, windows, and near the foundation. The weather stripping and caulking around doors and windows can warp, shrink, or become damaged and lead to a breach big enough for pests to enter. If you have foundational issues gaps can appear around doors and windows as well. Take some time to inspect the exterior of your home for breaches before the spring arrives. Repairing breaches now will help you protect your home from getting a pest infestation in the spring.

Repair water problems on the interior and exterior of your home

Water issues in and around your house can lead to pest infestations. Pests are attracted to homes that provide easy access to water. If you have a leaky faucet it can draw roaches inside. Water that does not drain properly on the exterior of your home can cause your ground to be saturated and bring in termites. If you want to prevent a spring pest infestation you need to start dealing with water issues around your house now.

Establish an improved cleaning routine

A messy and cluttered house can draw pests inside. Even if you keep the house relatively tidy but regularly fall behind on one or two tasks, it can lead to a problem. For example, ants and roaches can be drawn in by small amounts of food. If you regularly leave dishes in the sink overnight or forget to take out the trash in a timely fashion you may be inadvertently drawing pests inside. Take a look at your cleaning routine and determine if there are any ways that you can improve in order to prevent an infestation.

Getting a pest infestation during the spring is not inevitable. It is true that pests are persistent and will continually try to get in your home but keeping them out is not impossible. If you follow the tips outlined above and invest in professional preventative pest control, you will have a great chance of preventing infestations in the spring.
