Top 3 Tips For Staying Bug Free This Summer

Top 3 Tips For Staying Bug Free This Summer | San Joaquin Pest ControlSummer is nearby and that means a lot of prep work. If you have kids you’re getting prepared for even more. For one, you’ll need to figure out accommodations for younger kids while they’re out of school, if you’ll be at work. Maybe you’ll be signing them up for camp or little league. If you don’t have children, you might be making plans for your own summer vacation. Maybe you’re getting ready for a vacation or some fun activities you’re trying out during the longer days.

One thing you’ll need to prepare for, whether you’re a parent or not, is summertime bugs. I probably don’t have to tell you that bugs come out in droves for the summer weather. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to make yourself a little less vulnerable to them this year. Here are our top 3 tips for staying bug free this summer.

Don’t Ignore Standing Water

Mosquitoes and other pests love standing water, so if you have a pool cover it up whenever you’re not using it. Also check your hose and faucet for leaks, and your lawn for pools that gather after the sprinkler goes off.

If you have a bird bath, you probably enjoy watching the local birds enjoying the water you’ve put out for them. However, during the summer it’s important to clear out any sources of stagnant water whenever possible in order to prevent mosquitoes. It’s probably a good idea to clear the bird bath after the morning, or at least limit the amount of water you put into it in order to avoid mosquitoes that can bother both you and the birds.

Keep An Eye Out For Bed Bugs If Traveling

If you do have travel plans, make sure you watch out for bed bugs. Bed bugs tend to congregate anywhere that many people go in and out of often. This means hotels are especially susceptible. Read up on how to avoid bed bugs and take all the precautions possible.

Clean, clean, clean

Cleaning around the house is probably something you’re used to, but it’s essential during the warmer months. During the warm weather, pests are out and about foraging for new sources of food and water. Make sure that your house isn’t welcoming to them in any way. Wipe down surfaces as soon as you’re done using them. Take trash out at least once daily. Keep all of your food in airtight containers, and keep especially sticky or sugary foods in the refrigerator.
