One thing i’ve found interesting about pest control is that many people have no idea that they’re doing things that make their homes more open to pests. Some people are making their home’s the perfect place for pests to gather, without even knowing.
We completely understand that, and we’re here to help. We’d like to educate all of our customers, and locals about these potentially risky behaviors, so you’ll stop them once and for all. Here are four ways you might be creating more pest problems in your home:
- Not Cleaning The Kitchen
The first way is probably the easiest to understand. Keep your kitchen as clean as possible, and try to wipe down every surface often, keep the trash can emptied, and clean your floors on a regular basis. Just by doing those things, you’ll be greatly reducing your chances of encountering pests.
- Eating in Other Rooms
There’s a reason our mothers never let us eat snacks in our bedroom, and that reason is pests. You don’t need clean your room every night because you don’t prepare food in there; but if you insist on eating there, there’s no way to avoid getting food crumbs in there as well. This widens the scope of places that you’ll need to look for pests in your home, making your job much more difficult.
- Not Fixing Leaky Windows And Doors
Have you ever used weather stripping in your home? If not, you definitely should. Not only does it help keep the cold or hot air out, it also prevents pests from squeezing into your home underneath doors and around window sills. If your doors or windows aren’t tightly sealed, buy some weather stripping from a home improvement store to fix the problem. It’s pretty affordable and can save you hundreds in the long run.
- Leaving Wood Lying Around Your Property
Termites are creepy, and can cause a ton of damage to your home. Leaving wood around your yard is a great way to entice them. Termites live outdoors most of the time, and you can easily end up with a termite nest right next to your home if you leave piles of wood in your backyard since they eat wood, and this pile is a reliable food source. Additionally, don’t allow dead tree stumps to persist outside, and keep firewood in the garage.
Even after all this, there’s no way to guarantee that you don’t ever get a pest problem. But that’s what we’re here for! If you end up contracting a pest infestation, San Joaquin Pest Control can come in for an inspection, quickly figure out the extent of the issue, and work with you to get rid of the problem and keep it out for good.
