A rodent infestation can cause serious issues for your home and for the people who live in the home. Rodents can do damage to your house and ruin your food supply. In addition, they can spread disease and exacerbate issues for people with allergies or asthma. If you suspect a rodent infestation in your home you need to take quick and effective action. Common signs of a rodent infestation include seeing droppings, noticing food containers that have been chewed through, and actually seeing rodents.

Rodent droppings

No one really wants to talk about rodent droppings but it is important to know what to look for if you want to identify an infestation. Rodents try to avoid spending their time out in the open with you and your family. They generally spend their time out of view. If you want to look for rodent droppings then you need to look in the areas where they likely spend their time. This may include the back of closets or cabinets, under the sink, or in a rarely used room. Rodent droppings are also called pellets because of their size a shape. Generally you will see a grouping of multiple pellets if you have a rat or mice infestation. If you are unsure if what you found is from a rodent or some other pest then give a pest control professional a call and get help with the identification.

Damaged food containers

If you find that some of the cardboard food containers in your pantry have damage then it could be a sign of a rodent infestation. Rodent will also chew through plastic bags. Do a thorough inspection of everything in your pantry if you notice a problem. Rodents carry disease and can contaminate your food supply. You should not eat any food that you suspect has been contaminated by rodents.

Rodent sightings

Rodents try to stay out of sight and generally avoid detection. But, it is not completely unheard of to actually see a rodent when you have an infestation. If the infestation is severe then the likelihood of seeing a rodent increases. Usually the sighting will occur by accident when you open a cabinet that is generally left undisturbed. This is one of the reasons that people get so frightened by rodents-the sightings are typically sudden and unexpected. Seeing a rodent in your house is a sure sign of an infestation and should lead to immediate action on your part.

A rodent infestation is not a problem you should ignore. They can spread serious disease to humans. If you notice any of the signs mentioned about then get a professional opinion about whether or not you have an infestation. If you learn that you do have a rodent infestation then get help to eradicate your home as soon as possible.
