What Are the Top 3 Water-Loving Insects? | San Joaquin Pest ControlWater – we all need it right? Everybody loves water. You can drink it, bathe in it and go swimming in it. The possibilities are pretty much endless. Unfortunately, we’re not the only ones on this planet that appreciate water. It’s not that well-kept of a secret. There are several insects that need water to survive who will try to get it from your house. And no matter how much we appreciate water, we do not want to share it with pests. As you try to keep your house dry to avoid pests, you should know which insects appreciate water like you do. Here are the top three water-loving insects:

1. Cockroaches

This one might not have been difficult to guess. Cockroaches thrive in warm, damp environments, so providing one in your home is a welcome flag for them. Things that entice cockroaches to enter your home include leaky pipes, faucets, shower heads and spills. Just about anything that consistently produces water might as well be a cockroach welcome mat. Keep your house dry to keep the cockroaches out.

2. Ants

Ants are another insect that appreciates a nice gulp of water. They most commonly enter homes through cracks in order to forage for food and water. Any sort of spill that is made and not cleaned up in a timely fashion could attract ants quickly. They also like damp environments, so keeping everything dry and clean will help you keep ants out.

3. Earwigs

Earwigs hang out and form colonies underneath leaf piles and inside any sort of mulch material outside your home. They then enter through cracks. For whatever reason, they’re thirsty, so the main places you’ll find them inside your home are places with water. This usually includes laundry rooms, bathrooms and kitchens. Caulking cracks regularly and keeping your home as dry as possible are good practices for preventing earwigs. There are plenty of insects that could be attracted to your home by water, and these are just three of them. As far as pest prevention goes, keeping a dry, clean home is a best practice that will help keep you pest-free.
