5 Avoidable Reasons You Have a Cockroach Infestation in Your Business | San Joaquin Pest ControlCockroaches are gross. There’s no other way to put it. No one has ever seen a cockroach and not been repulsed. So having cockroaches in your business is a nightmare. Think about it: if you walked into a business and saw a roach, would you feel inclined to give that business your money?

If you’re dealing with cockroaches in your business, you should contact a professional pest control company immediately to handle the problem. Then, once you get off the phone, read these five tips for preventing cockroach infestations in the future:

  1. Your windows and doors aren’t properly sealed

Pests don’t originate inside of your building – they have to make their way in somehow. If you have loose seals around windows or doors, there’s more than enough room for cockroaches to squeeze in. Window or door screens with tears can also allow pests to enter.

  1. You have cracks in the walls

Just like the window seals, cracks in the walls are a perfect entryway for a cockroach. Cracks need to be filled with caulking; bigger cracks may need to be patched.

  1. You’re leaving food out

Cockroaches, like most insects, are constantly in search of food. If you’re not storing food in airtight containers, you’re creating an enticing target for cockroaches. Don’t leave food out for long periods, either.

  1. You’re not keeping the kitchen clean

If there’s a kitchen or breakroom in your building, there are plenty of surfaces where crumbs and food particles can gather. Counters and tables need to be wiped down regularly, and dishware should be washed daily. You should also sweep and mop frequently to deprive cockroaches of any food.

  1. You have too much clutter

Cockroaches don’t like to be out in the open – that’s why you may only see an occasional cockroach when there’s actually dozens more living in your building. Therefore, they will seek refuge in boxes or cabinets, especially if they are filled with items. Keep boxes off of the floor, and minimize clutter so roaches don’t have anywhere to hide.
