Bakersfield Residents: Two Things To Know Before You Fumigate | San Joaquin Pest ControlIf you’re dealing with any type of pest control issue, chances are fumigation is an option you’re considering. This is by far the most effective way of getting rid of pests. In today’s DIY loving culture, you might also be considering trying to attack the problem on your own, or with a partner using store bought traps or repellents. This isn’t necessarily a bad idea, and depending on the severity of your case, it might be the right thing to do. However, you’ll be doing a lot more manual work and the results are probably going to be a lot less satisfying. Luckily, living in Bakersfield, you have plenty of reputable and experienced pest control companies to choose from, but if you need help figuring out what to look in a company, check out our blog on the subject. If you’ve decided to go with a structural fumigation it’s likely because you feel a bit overwhelmed by the scope of the issue, and want the peace of mind of knowing that all pests will be wiped out in one fell swoop. Fumigation can certainly provide those kinds of results, but there are some things to keep in mind before you begin the process.

It’s Complicated

Your pest control company isn’t just going to come in and start spraying chemicals all over the place. There is significant prep work, including moving your family and pets to a safe location, which we’ll discuss in the next section. There are several things that happen during the fumigation process. Your home or space will be sealed in a tarp, like you’ve probably seen on the street at some point. It will also be marked with signs warning people against the chemicals being used. After all of this is completed, the chemicals will be sprayed. The gas will get into all the cracks and nooks that you would otherwise have no way of reaching. After this process is finished, the pest control team will set up fans all over our home to get rid of the gas. Lastly, they will test your space to make sure they there are no leftover chemicals in any of the rooms.

You’ll Have To Relocate Temporarily

As mentioned before, you and your family will need to find another place to stay during the fumigation. This includes all pets, including fish. Not only is it not safe for you to be in the home while the chemicals are being sprayed, but you’ll need to stay overnight somewhere since it takes a while for the gas to be cleared out after the pest control team is finished. The exact amount of time you’ll need to stay somewhere else will depend on the size and severity of your pest issue, but it can be anywhere from 6 hours to a week. Your pest control technician will give you a more specific time range when you have your consultation, so don’t worry, you’ll be able to plan ahead.
