Preventing rodents in Bakersfield | San Joaquin Pest ControlRodents can be a difficult problem to deal with. Not only are a lot of people afraid of mice and rats, but they can actually be dangerous. Rodents have been known to spread diseases that can be dangerous for humans and pets. They can also do a lot of dangerous damage to your home. They hide out underneath your house and in your walls and while you might not even know they’re there, they could be doing thousands of dollars of damage to your house. They can chew through electrical wires and do damage to the wood in framework. Unfortunately, rodents tend to congregate in areas that have a lot of human homes. Bakersfield is a suburban city, which means that it’s a target for rodents. As with most pest problems, calling a pest control company is the best way to get rid of rodents. However, an even better plan of attack is keeping them out in the first place.. Here are some tips on keeping rodents from getting into your home

Restrict Access

The first thing you need to do is figure out how the rodents might get into your home. This requires you to do an inspection of your home. Walk around your house and look for access points. Rodents, and even other pests don’t need a lot to get into a house. Even a tiny hole can help them make their way in. Look for holes in you’re the screens of your windows or doors. If you see any, patch them up right away. Look for cracks or gaps in your walls. If you find any, fill them up with caulking. Also check for any leaks in your pipes. Rodents can use your pipes as tunnels and climb through cracks to get into your home.

Call a pest control company

As with all pest issues, setting up a pest control routine is one of the best things you can do to keep them to a minimum. Set up a consultation with your local pest company. The technician that comes to your home should be able to point out some changes for you to make in order to make your house less attractive to rodents. They will also be able to set up a routine inspection to help keep your home rodent free in the long run. It’s also a nice resource to have for the future, when you might run into any kind of pest issue. Having a pest expert that knows your home can be extremely helpful when running into an unexpected problem that needs to be taken care of right away.

Cleaning up

Making your house less of a draw to rodents is an important step in minimizing pest issues. Clean every surface and mop floors regularly. Keep trash in a secured can with a lid, and make a habit of taking it out daily and as soon as it fills up. Store all foods in airtight containers and keep them up and away when not being used. These might seem simple, but they can make a world of difference.
